Upgraded My 18.5 Inch Gen-1 WSM
A few years ago I paid about $230 for my WSM smoker - the newest version (same as mine except it has Temperature Gauge) is now 300 on Amazon.
For less than 20 bucks I installed original Weber bezel & gauge. i tested the gauge against a Therma-pen in boiling water and the Weber was within about 4 degrees of the pen. That more than close enough for low and slow q-uing.
Make a simple template using the Bezel - drill 2 holes & drop in bezel & gauge, secure with supplied wing-nut & your done. The part number for the gauge is Weber 63028 - you need to get Bezel PN from Weber.
