The Best
I grill almost everyday in summer and quite a bit even in the winter. So I tend to be a bit hard on my grills and I had never really spent much on my grills and I replace every 2-4 years. This time around though, I fell in love with some of the newer stainless steel grills out there and on some of them it appears that you get more than from Weber: more grilling space, or more BTUs, or just bigger. So I decided to go digging a bit.
I checked consumer reports and this Weber grill is rated the #1 grill out there for the following reasons:
a) very even heating
b) quick heating
c) very solid construction
d) low propensity for flareups
Consumer reports brought out some of the more glaring shortfalls to other grills that were not easily apparent then blinded by all that stainless steel at the local warehouse store. Armed with some consumer reports data I went back to the local stores that have these grills and I started to see what they...
Truly an amazing grill
I spent 6 months doing extensive research on grills before purchasing this unit. At the time of this writing, I have cooked on it approximately 20 times.
Every design aspect of the grill has been thoroughly thought out. It creates over 600F of heat. Due to thick metals, heat is maintained when the top is opened. It can sear steaks effectively. The heat is consistent across the surface without hot or cold spots. Even the doors open and close like a solid, quality appliance. Nothing on this grill is flimsy.
I am extremely happy with this purchase.
My only complaint is that they put the control knobs on top of the right tray, eliminating valuable surface area.
I would also suggest that you buy a recent copy of "Weber Way to Grill", an OXO meat thermometer, and tongs.
A few grilling tips:
Never stab your food with a fork. You will create exit holes for the juices.
Oil food, not the grates...
It's pretty good but there's a lot of hype in other reviews
Like many people, I scoured reviews on Amazon and elsewhere trying to get a feel for which BBQs were the best in the $500-$800 category--as many have, I've bought the $150 special at Target only to be disappointed with the cooking performance and longevity. Weber grills kept showing up with 5 star ratings, particularly the Genesis E310/S310 models.
I ended up buying a Genesis S-310 from a local brick and mortar store because I didn't have time to wait for shipping from an internet store. Be aware, this grill comes in a HUGE box, weighs 160 lbs. and may be subject to some interstate freight drop-kicking which probably won't hurt what's inside. Your first hurdle will be assembly--the instructions are TERRIBLE. Anyone who tells you they put it together in under an hour is either a liar or assembles grills for a living. In my case, it took 3 tool-handy men about 3 hours to assemble it. For example, one part in step one has to be installed in a certain orientation or the...
